By Nik.Ink
A piece from Nik.ink's first collection,
as the title suggests, this work explores scarring and cauterization on multiple levels.
At first glance, one is struck by the mark of the "vein" glowing from the ardent metal that sealed it, conveying the pain associated with the healing of a physical and emotional wound, while proudly displaying itself as the scarred trophy of having conquered it.
The background, with its marble motifs and color palette, expresses solidity and immovability, yet creates an incredible contrast with the cracks within it, mended with golden marks.
These recall the concept of "kintsugi," the art of incredible patience required to reassemble the pieces of a very fragile object using gold lines and drippings.
It is a time-consuming process, but it results in something far superior, in beauty and value, to the original object.
The work is therefore a reminder of how our wounds shine once healed, and no matter how painful and patient the healing process, how these should be a source of pride and thus displayed in their beauty.
